What being a board member is all about...

Unlike other kinds of financial institutions, Oxford Federal Credit Union is member owned. Those who serve on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee are unpaid volunteers. The Board of Directors is elected by their fellow members at the credit union’s Annual Membership Meeting. Every member of Oxford Federal gets to vote on who will represent them on the Board of Directors.

Serving as a Board or Supervisory Member is a valuable and fulfilling experience, furthering the longstanding credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Your Board of Directors meets monthly and guides the credit union through strategic planning and setting of policy. Board and Supervisory Members also participate in various other activities throughout the year. In addition, the Board of Directors is responsible for hiring and supervising the CEO, who then hires and supervises the credit union staff. The CEO of the credit union is hired by the Board of Directors to carry out the mission and implement policy’s set forth by the Board.

Board members are elected annually and serve a three year term. Each member of the credit union has one vote. The Oxford Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee is appointed by the Board of Directors and meets on a regular basis. The role of the Supervisory Committee is to maintain oversight of the safety and soundness of the credit union, including overseeing internal audits, verifying member accounts, responding to unsafe activity and maintaining confidentiality. Supervisory Committee members also attend the Board of Director Meetings monthly.

Oxford Federal Credit Union also has an Associate Board Member program where the board may appoint up to three non-voting Board members to serve in an advisory capacity on the Board and to provide experienced personnel to fill future vacancies.
