Oxford Federal Credit Union is member owned and managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This board is elected at the annual meeting. Members in good standing are eligible to run for any available seat on the Board of Directors.
Our Volunteer Supervisory Committee's primary responsibility is to determine that the credit union is soundly managed and that members' assets are safeguarded.
Oxford Federal Credit Union was chartered on March 8, 1938. Since then we have grown tremendously and continue to grow both in membership and asset size.
Our philosophy is to provide members with personalized, quality service while assisting them in achieving financial success. Since 1938, volunteers and employees have worked together to make that mission a reality and our intentions remain the same as those of our founders. Simply put - "people helping people."
Oxford Federal Credit Union serves over 15,000 members through our conveniently located, full service main office located at 225 River Road, in Mexico, our branch office at 54 Fair Street in Norway, and through our home banking product, CU Anywhere.
Congratulations! This 5 Star Superior Rating Highest Performance award given by BauerFinancial, Inc., recognizes OFCU's continuous earning of superior ratings in each of the most recent reporting periods since December 1990.
Explanation of Criteria Used to Determine BauerFinancial 5 Star Rating tm
Financial data is compiled for credit unions as reported to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the governing body for credit unions. Although the financial data obtained from this source is consistently reliable, the accuracy and completeness of the data cannot be guaranteed by BauerFinancial, Inc.
NCUA data includes financial data on some credit unions whose shares (deposits) are privately insured, not federally insured. Credit Unions with private deposit insurance are not rated and are noted by "N.R." in the star rating column. Small Credit unions (less than $1.5 million in assets) are also not rated.
The star ratings classify each credit union based upon a complex formula which factors in relevant data including, but not limited to: capital, historical trends, loan delinquencies, differences in the book and market values of the investment portfolio, profitability, repossessed assets, reserves, charge-offs, regulatory compliance and asset quality. (Although credit unions are not-for-profit institutions, losses can impact capital and safety.) Negative trends are projected forward to compensate for the lag time in the data. BauerFinancial employs conservative measures when assigning these ratings and consequently the ratios will often be lower than those supplied by other analysts or the institutions themselves. More than twenty years of experience has shown ours to be a prudent course of action.
Recommended Credit Unions
Each of the credit unions on this Recommended Credit Union Report is rated either five-star or four-star on our zero-to-five-star scale. They are safe, financially sound credit unions that are operating well above their regulatory capital requirements. Each five-star institution on this report had a capital to assets ratio of 9% or higher. (Five-star credit unions with assets less than $10 million had a capital to assets ratio of 10% or higher.) Generally, the four-star credit unions had capital ratios between 6% and 9%.
