Student Financial Fairs

OFCU visits area high schools twice throughout the year as part of the CUr Financial Future Money Management Experience (CUFF).  During our first visit, OFCU presents the students with a PowerPoint presentation introducing a credit score, and how that credit score can affect the rest of their lives.  At the end of this introductory session, a form is passed out to the students where they are asked a few questions.  Each student is asked to write down their career choice, if they plan on attending college, and for how long (associates, bachelors, masters, doctorate) they plan on attending college.  Once completed, this form is collected and returned to OFCU where we use the data to build a customized budget sheet.

A couple weeks later, OFCU returns to the high school for the second half of the CUFF event.  At this event, we distribute the customized budget sheets which contain salary information for the students chosen profession, as well as an estimate of their student loan costs.  The students are asked to imagine that they have just graduated college, have landed a job in their chosen profession, and have taken a day off from their busy schedules to do a little shopping.  With budget sheet in hand, the students visit each of nine booths comprising housing, transportation, food, home furnishing, insurance, credit & loans, savings, entertainment & recreation, and reality check, where they pretend to build a monthly budget which fits into their available salary.
